From Skin to Screen: Elevating Brands with AR Tattoos
Shai Goller, EVP Creative Solutions
In a world where technology and art continuously intersect, AGM Labs introduces InkVision—where temporary tattoos meet augmented reality (AR), elevating activations and branded events into platforms for unforgettable digital experiences.
The InkVision Concept: Innovating Body Art with Technology
Imagine a tattoo that’s not just a static image, but a gateway into a world of digital interaction. InkVision is pushing the boundaries of traditional body art by incorporating QR and AR technology. Once applied, these QR tattoos, perfect for events such as festivals or smaller brand activations, become interactive and dynamic—transporting users from the physical realm to animated AR experiences or personalized branded landing pages.
Execution and Innovation
The process involves custom-printed temporary flash-tattoos that incorporate a QR code in the design which can be scanned by users to trigger AR animations or direct them to specific URLs. This technology is perfectly suited for experiential marketing, where shareable, unique branding opportunities are key. Imagine a tattoo that not only expresses identity but also tells a story, leading users further down the conversion funnel.
Solving Challenges: Exploring Temporary Tattoo Printers
In our initial approach, we used a temporary tattoo printer, which offered the distinct benefit of on-the-spot personalization. This would allow festival-goers and event attendees to receive custom designs tailored instantly to their preferences, enhancing the personal and immersive aspect of their experience. The flexibility to create designs in real-time was a compelling feature, especially for dynamic, interactive environments where immediate impact is paramount.
Pivot to a Superior Solution: Printed Flash Tattoos
However, the temporary tattoo printer struggled with producing QR codes sharp enough for reliable scanning, a key component for unlocking the AR experience. To address this, we pivoted to using pre-printed flash tattoos, which provided superior definition and legibility, including spot white printing for diverse skin tones. While this approach requires advance design planning and sacrifices some level of real-time personalization, it ensures consistent quality and functionality. This change ultimately enhances the interactive potential and accessibility of the tattoos, making them suitable for diverse audiences at experiential events.
Real-World Applications and Examples
InkVision isn’t just about the technology; it’s about the stories it tells and the connections it makes. During development, we tested several AR triggers to highlight the versatility of the concept:
Butterfly Animation: A tattoo transforms into a digital butterfly animation that flies off your arm and can lead you to an engaging branded experience. In this case, tapping it takes you to our website.
Automotive Animation: This design utilizes AR to transform a static image into a moving car animation and includes a tappable button that takes you to a landing page.
Sports Animation: Triggering a playful animation with various sports balls, this visual direction caters to sports brands and events.
These examples demonstrate the flexibility of InkVision to cater to diverse audiences, brands and types of events, providing marketing teams the opportunity to tailor branding efforts across various demographics and interests.
Building Personal Connections with InkVision
In today's market, consumers gravitate toward brands that resonate personally with them. InkVision empowers brands to create authentic, meaningful interactions through AR-enabled tattoos, offering personalized experiences at events and festivals. This technology provides an engaging platform for brands to connect with individuals on a personal level, fostering genuine relationships and enhancing brand loyalty. By leveraging these tattoos, brands can offer more relatable and memorable experiences that align with consumers' identities and preferences.
